10. The Graph Lesedi La Rona: Over Rs 470 crore ($53 million)
Lawrence Graff is its owner. Graph Lesedi La Rona, which means Our Light in the Swana language of Botswana. It is an extraordinary example of nature and human ingenuity. This unique diamond, discovered in 2015, was obtained from 1,109 carat rough stone. It is the second largest gem-quality diamond ever found, only larger than the Cullinan Diamond.
Graff bought this historic rough diamond in 2017 for $53 million. Over the next two years, expert cutters and gemologists worked together to transform it into a brilliant square emerald-cut diamond weighing 302.37 carats. It is the largest diamond in its category (color and purity) ever certified by GIA. An additional 66 diamonds were also produced from this rough, indicating its extraordinary rarity and immense value.

9. De Beers Blue: Rs 510 crore ($57.5 million)
The De Beers Blue Diamond was sold for $57.5 million at an auction held at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in April 2022. It created a new record by being sold at this price. It became the most expensive blue diamond ever sold at auction. This stunning 15.10 carat blue diamond is not only the largest blue diamond ever offered at auction, it is also the largest flawless step-cut vivid blue diamond graded by GIA. 8. The Oppenheimer Blue Diamond: Rs 510 crore ($57.5 million)
This 14.62-carat vivid blue diamond, named after its former owner Sir Philip Oppenheimer, was sold at a Christie’s auction in 2016 for $57.5 million. The Oppenheimer family has been a leader in the diamond industry for several generations. Sir Philip had the option to choose any diamond in the world, but he chose this one. It became the pride of the family due to its perfect colour, magnificent proportions and excellent rectangular (emerald) cut. This extraordinary diamond is classified as Vivid Blue, whose beauty is further enhanced by its classical emerald cut.

7. Williamson Pink Star: Rs 510 crore ($57.7 million)
In 2022, Williamson’s Pink Star was sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong for a staggering $57.7 million. This 11.15 carat cushion-cut fancy vivid pink diamond was mined from the famous Williamson mine in Tanzania. It was named after the same mine. The price per carat of this diamond was more than 5 million dollars, making it the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction on a per carat basis.
It also became the second most expensive piece of jewelery sold at auction, behind the record-breaking CTF Pink Star sold the same year. Extracted from a 32.32 carat rough diamond, it was exquisitely cut into an 11.15 carat cushion-cut, and set in a rose gold ring featuring both white and pink diamonds. It is a dark pink colour.

6. The Regent Diamond: Over Rs 532 crore ($60 million)
Regent Diamond weighing 140.64 carats is an amazing gem, whose historical journey starts from the Kollur mine of India. After finding it, an Indian slave hid it, but later an English sea captain murdered him and sold the diamond to a merchant. The diamond eventually reached France, where it was set in the crowns of Louis XV and Louis XVI and also adorned the hat of Marie Antoinette. In 1801 Napoleon Bonaparte acquired it permanently and mounted it in the guard of his sword.
It was stolen during the French Revolution, but years later it was recovered and is now preserved in the Louvre Museum. With a value of more than $60 million, the Regent Diamond’s unique beauty and checkered history make it one of the most valuable diamonds in the world. Recently there was also a theft in the Louvre Museum.

The Pink Star Diamond, discovered in South Africa in 1999, is the largest fancy vivid pink diamond ever found. It was earlier known as Steinmetz Pink. It has been given fancy vivid pink grade. It initially weighed 132.5 carats and it took two years to cut and polish it. Its shine, shape and rare pink color make it a unique diamond.
In 2017, it was purchased by Hong Kong company Chow Tai Fook Enterprises through a telephone bid at a Sotheby’s auction. It changed its name to CT Pink Star, in memory of the late father of the company’s current chairman. Now it is an internally flawless oval shaped diamond of 59.60 carats.

4. The Century Diamond: ₹8.25 crore ($100 million)
This diamond is known for its flawless clarity and premium color rating. It was shown to the world in 1988 during the centenary celebration of De Beers company. Now it is not with the company and there is no information about its current owner. Due to its flawless clarity it is among the most expensive diamonds in the world.
The weight of the Century Diamond in its rough form was more than 500 carats. It was later cut and reduced to 273.85 carats into a modified heart-shape. Despite the reduction in carat weight, there was a significant improvement in the quality of color (D grade) and clarity (Flawless). It took a total of 154 days for the team of experts to recut this unique diamond.

3. Hope Diamond: ₹16,50 to ₹20,60 crore ($200–250 million)
It is believed to have been discovered in India in the 1600s. It is famous for its deep blue glow and mysterious history. The Hope Diamond was purchased by King Louis XIV of France in 1668, but was stolen during the robbery of the royal jewels in 1791 and remained missing for nearly 50 years. It was found again in London in 1839. This fancy dark grey-blue antique cushion-cut diamond weighs 45.52 carats.
In 1949, diamond merchant Harry Winston purchased it and later donated it to the Smithsonian Institution, where it still attracts a large number of tourists. Today it is kept in the Smithsonian Museum. Its history, color and mystery make it one of the most precious gems in the world. This stone is also considered a “cursed diamond”, as unfortunate events happened to many of its owners or anyone who came in contact with this diamond.

2. Cullinan: More than ₹17,000 crore (about $2 billion)
Cullinan, also known as the Star of Africa, was discovered in 1905. It was found in Cullinan city of South Africa. It is the largest rough diamond ever found in the world. When it was found, its weight was 3,106.75 carats. This diamond was later gifted to Britain’s King Edward VII. It was later cut into nine key stones, several of which are part of the British Crown Jewels. The largest of these, Cullinan I, is 530.2 carats and is set at the top of the scepter of the King of Britain. 1. The Koh-e-Noor i.e. Kohinoor: Price unknown i.e. priceless
Koh-i-Noor tops the list of the world’s most expensive diamonds. This is a mythological and historical diamond. Kohinoor comes in a separate category of its own. This diamond, known as “Ko-e-Noor” i.e. Mountain of Light in Persian, is still considered the most valuable diamond in the world due to its shine and unique beauty. It is believed that it was approximately 793 carats, which was later cut several times to bring out its amazing shine and now it is 105.6 carats.
This oval shaped diamond is believed to have been mined in India in the 1300s. The dispute regarding this diamond is over its ownership claim. It reached from South India to Delhi, from Delhi to Afghanistan, from Afghanistan again to Delhi and then from Delhi to England. India says that Britain had snatched it and it should be returned to India.
In 1850, Britain took it under its control and in 1852, Prince Albert got it cut from 186 carats to 105.6 carats to increase its shine. This colorless oval-cut diamond is also known as “Mountain of Light” and “Diamond of Babar”. Today Kohinoor is one of the most famous and discussed diamonds in the world.
